It’s was December 25th 2000. Homer Walker, or Great Uncle Homer as he was being called, was 74 years old. His wife Betsy died in a car accident 10 years ago. She was only 60 years old when she died. Now he lives alone in Sellingsgrove, Pennsylvania. And he should spend the Christmas alone because he was too sick to spending the Christmas with anyone.
Homer started to open his Christmas presents. At first he opened the one from his children, Jean, Robin and Josh. It was a small box, and inside the box he saw a card. On the card there was a picture of a little puppy, and there stood:
Hi dearest father.
We would wish that you could come and spend the Christmas with us, but we know why you can’t. But we keep wondering, don’t you ever feel alone? So we bought you a puppy. If you walk out on you balcony, it would be there.
Merry Christmas, Dad.
We love you.
He got all warm inside, and saw out on the balcony, and there it was, his new little friend. He decided to call the puppy Oliver. Oliver sprang up into Homers arms and Homer didn’t felt so alone anymore.
