1. Summary of Children teased and bullied at school over healthy food choices, written by Lucy Ward.

The text is about the children’s eating habits in English schools. In the text it says that there are many different factors, which make children choose unhealthy food. The primary reason is that they are teased, if they eat something healthy. Some of the other reasons are the influence by the media; children eat unhealthy food because they can relate it to the popular actors, so they get a strong reputation. Children gets to see the pictures of a healthy lunch and a lunch of a burger and chips, and they categorise the healthy lunch as something a “posh sporty girl” eats, while the burger and chips is something a “naughty greedy boy” eats. A majority of the children are most appealed by the burger and chips, and can’t imagine anyone their age to choose the healthy alternative. At the same time it criticizes the fact that the schools only offer low nutritional food, and the Barnardo’s hopes that the government will intervene and as a start, phase out the vending machines like they do in Scotland and Wales.
