”Basketball: The Black Game” is an article. In the text we do not know who the writer is but the text refers to several different sources..

Basketball gets started and formed by a white man named James Naismith. The game is for the first time played on January 15, 1892. Basketball quickly becomes popular among the white people. The black people begin to play basketball in the ghettos, they believe that they have invented basketball as much as the whites have. It develops rapidly and becomes a popular sport, that many plays.

In 1960 it is organized in a kind of sport organization. In the competitions the black people begin to dominate the game with good results. It rapidly becomes more than a game, racially. For the black people it is a great part of their cultural identity and as important as their music and clothes. The black people often get the best results when they play.

Inside the city is basketball played on the streets, it is a very valuable sport. It gives poor black people an opportunity to get scholarships and get an education. The black look at basketball as a very serious sport, in the inner city kids look at basketball as a matter of life and death. Suburban(white) kids tend to play for the fun, and for them it is not a matter of “life and death.”
