• (125 words)The story is about the businesswoman Miriam, an older divorced woman, she sits in a cab, on her way home from the hospital, and she talks with the driver, he says he lives like a dog alone. She tries to cheer him up, but her words do not get through to him. She lies and tells him she is married, that her husband is waiting up for here. They arrive at her house and he asks if he can come in for a cup of coffee, that he expects her husband to still be asleep and that he would never let his woman go to hospital on her own. She tells him she lied about her husband, he parks and they enter the house together.• (134 words)Miriam is an older woman who lives by herself, because her husband left her for an actress and left her penniless. She runs a successful nursing agency and she’s been voted Businesswoman of the Year. Her ex-husband went to the courts and asked for alimony, since she was so rich and famous now. She paid it without arguing it, saying “these are the days of gender equality”. She regularly ends up at the hospital because of her heart racing, needing medical intervention to calm it down because of too much adrenaline. She has an instinct that tells her to cheer up people, she believes that were the reason her husband left her. She seems to live a simple life of a successful businesswoman, no husband, no children either it seems, alone in her house.• (91 words)“Living Like a Dog, Alone” is a very fitting title for the story, since the dog has two different sides; the wild dog, roaming the streets alone and the pet dog, seemingly a part of the family. The cab driver is like a “wild dog” in that sense, “roaming” the streets in his cab, trying to survive, when he’s found by Miriam, she takes him in and gives him a chance, as if she had taken home a dog she found on the streets, making it a part of the family. • (105 words)Miriam lives alone, having been “betrayed” by her husband. In a way, she has something in common with the cab driver, expect her view on the situation is more positive –Maybe that’s why she let the cab driver in, she saw some of her own life in him, the “lone dog”, him away from his home country, she divorced and alone. One of her weakness is wanting to know if her prognoses comes true, but I think it’s only part of the reason, it might have something to do with it, but it’s not what triggers the final decision to bring him into her home.• (200 words)“Dear audience, stress is a word we often hear these days and a problem many people a suffering under.
