Founders of the band is Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. Band aids focus on the poverty in africa. In 1984 Geldof and Ure made the song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
It was released in November, and immediately became Number One in Great Britain, and was Number One in American two weeks later. The song sold fifty million copies. It sold over 3 million copies in Great Britain alone. Midge Ure was the co-producer, and he was the first to relief the shipment of over $70,000 worth of food and medical supplies to Ethiopia, March 11, 1985.
In 2004 there were a new group of big brittan artistes like Robbie Williams, Paul McCartney, Bono, Travis, Chris Martin from coldplay, who sang “do they know it´s christmas” the purpose was again to raise money for Africa more specific Sudan. they called them selv of band Aid 20.
One year later the LIVE AID 8 concert held in london, was not about money but the voices of the poor, and to get noticed by the leaders of the world. so they could help stop poverty.
Geldof said something like “this is the chance for ordinary people to achieve something.”
LIVE AID raised 100 million dollars, but still today there are poverty in africa.
