Hi dad. I miss you around here, and so do mom. Everything has been so quiet since you passed away. One of the things I miss most about you was the small things in everyday life. Like in the morning, I would sit on your lap, and we would read the paper and correct the mistyping’s. Or when you picked me up from school, and always said: “There’s my son!”
Mom has been very sad since you died, of course. But I feel like I have to show my worth as the man in the house, even though I’m only twelve. It can be hard, but it matures me psychologically.
Everything in school is fine, besides the other kids are picking on me all the time. Sometimes I get so mad I punch or kick them, and I get beaten up. Besides that I’m doing good, with the grades and everything.
A few weeks ago when I was walking home from school, I bumped into a guy called Woody and his gang. They invited me to join them, and since that day I have been with them all the time. There’s a girl called Smell that I really like. Last weekend we were at a party, and one of Woody’s old friends called Combo joined us. He just got out of prison, and he was talking about Paki’s and black people stealing our jobs. I actually like the way he thinks, and I think that it’s true. The last couple of days I have been with Combo, and he has become like a mentor/father figure for me.
