Bristol Murder: Peter Jones og den unge hitchhiker

Peter Jones drives lorries with goods from Bridgwater. On one of his drives to Manchester he pickes up a hitch-hiker. The hitch-hiker is a boy, around sixteen years old who had run away from home. Peter offered him tea and Peter asked him why he had run away and John said it was because he had been in a fight with his uncle and he had run away after hitting his uncle and when he came back there where police men everywhere. As John went up to buy some more tea Peter looked at the newspaper, at the front page it said ’’Man Found Dead’’ Peter read the article and it said that the police where looking for the dead mans nephew John Stevens who they think had killed his uncle. Peter was very surprised but didnt say anything to John as he came back with the teas. John was sleeping in the back with the goods while Peter was driving, when Peter saw a police car, a police man stepped out in front of the lorry and he looked in the lorry but couldnt see anything except the boxes so they let Peter go. Peter told John to go to the cinema while he went and talked to an old friend who might know something about who killed Johns uncle. John went to the cinema and there he meet a girl who he ended up watching the movie with, at the meen time Peter was talking to his old friend. He gave Peter and adress to a man who might know about the murder. The man, who’d they’d gotten the adress too, Bob Steel wasnt to much help but said he’d meet them at the railway station, and after they’d talked he called the police and told them where John was. Some police men arrested John and took him to the station where they asked him questions about his uncle and why he had killed him. Peter found Bob talking to a young man about the murder so Peter ran after them but lost the young boy. Bob didnt know who it was but he said that he should talk to the dead mans students. He then was told to talk to a boy called Tommy Logan, but Tommy got scared and went to Bobs house for help. Peter drove after them and they got stopped by the police for their reckless driving, at the station Tommy told the policemen that he has killed him but it was in selfdefense because the dead man, Robert had hit him and threatend him but he didnt mean too kill him, so John and Peter where free to go.
