Australia is a country in the Southern Hemisphere. The country is divided into 6 states: New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. The capital is Canberra, but the biggest and most well known city is Sydney. There live about 22.631.813 million people in Australia. So there live almost 4 times as many people as in Denmark. The original people of Australia are called Aborigines and Australia’s Queen is named Elizabeth the second.
The Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre. It was opened officially for the first time the 20th October 1973, in the occasion of Queen Elizabeth the second. The opera house is designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who received the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honour, in 2003. It is placed on Bennelong Point in the harbor of Sydney. Also near the Sydney Harbor Bridge. The building covers 1.8 hectares land, and has 7 big rooms: The Concert Hall with 2679 seats, The Opera Theatre with 1507 seats, The Drama Theatre with 544 seats, The Playhouse with 398 seats, The Studio with a maximum capacity of 400 people, The Utzon Room with 210 seats and The Forecourt an open-air venue.
