The story takes place at the Welton school, the Welton school was one of the eleven best schools in USA. The story happened in 1959, so the school was very traditional, and only for boys. The story mostly follows a boy named Neil Perry, who is attending the Welton school, and some of he’s friends. The story starts just after the summer holidays 1959. A new English teacher called John Keating starts at the school. Neil and he’s friends had always wanted to become things as lawyers and doctors, but John Keating makes an influence on them, in he’s classes. John Keating’s teaching methods was very untraditional, he learned the students to think by themselves. He learned the students to look at the world in a different way. He told the students about “carpe diem” it means seize the day, and it’s a proverb. The students really liked he’s classes, but the principal didn’t.
At a later point, after the inspiration of John Keating, Neil Perry and he’s friends started a kind of group called: Dead poets society. Afterwards they often met in a cave at the night, to discuss proverbs and philosophy. Neil and he’s friends started to think by themselves. Though his father was against it, Neil decided to take part in a play. One of Neil’s friends called Knox decided to whatever it takes, to be with the girl, he is felled in love with. Another friend of Neil’s overcomes he’s shyness, and throws he’s parents birthday present away. But the teachers starts to suspect John Keating’s his teaching methods.
