Review of Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society is a story about a group of boys and this terrible private school. Here the boys meet the new English teacher named Mr. Keating. This teacher is not like the others. He’s very open and on the first day of school he asks his students to rib out a whole chapter in their books. His slogan is “CARPE DIEM”, which means “Seize the day”. That means he wants his students to think on their own and become individual persons. Some boys in the class makes a group called “Dead Poets Society”. This is a secret club, where the boys meet up in a cave to read and write poems to express their feelings. Because of this secret club the boys live in danger and risk. The danger and risk of getting caught. One of the boys, Neil Perry has a lot of issues with his dad. He’s dad (Mr. Perry) wants his son to become a doctor. Neil does not really want to be a doctor. He wants to be something in the entertainment industry, maybe an actor. This “fight” between father and son makes a lot of drama in this special story. The story ends in a way that you really could not predict. Mr. Keating gets fired, and when he walks out of his classroom for the last time all his students stand up on their tables and yells out “Oh Captain, My Captain!” which he has taught them in their first lesson.
