In dead poets society a class of stundents get a new teacher called mr. Keating or "Oh Captain My Captain" as he tells the "dareing" ones.

Mr. Keatings motto is "carpe diem" or "sieze the day" whitch he tries to teach his students by ripping out pages of books, inventing odd and unique ways of walking, and by telling them about the "dead poets society" while still teaching them about poets and writers

"Carpe diem" is latin and litterary expression for siezing the day or moment and getting the most satisfaction out of an everyday or just plain ordinary event. this term is expressed in the poetry and events through out the book, per example when Todd gets a desk set second year in a row and Todd and Neil decided to throw it off the building. Or when they gather up in the cave to read poems about siezing the day
