Amish traditioner: Rumspringa, bryllupper og interview

Amish people are very different, they have no electricity or technology. They have special ceremonies and traditions, that is also very different from our world.

Rumspringa

Rumspringa is a very old Amish tradition. Rumspringa means ”running around”. it’s a period of adolescence when Amish peaople turn 16. When they fianlly turn sixteen, they will get a lot more freedom, and they can start going to parties. Rumsrpinga ends when you choose baptism in the church, or instead leaving the community.

Weddings

Amish weddings are a secret until about two weeks before it actually happens. There are some Tell-tale signs such as the amount of celery is an important part of the wedding party. Creamed celery is served as the main vegetable dish at the main meal. All amish family members and friends are invited to the wedding. If any of the invited people live too far to travel to the home, they may hire a van driver. It is not against the amish beliefs to ride in a car, only to own it. The mother prov-

ides the food, but certainly friends and other family help with the cooking. Which actually start a week before the wedding ceremony. There is a cermony to the wedding, which is called ”Going to the table”. It’s after the noon meal is served, then all the unmarried women between sixteen and thirty, are invited to go to the upstairs bedroom. Then the men come upstairs and ask the women to ”go to the table”
