Shirley is the main character, she is 42 years old and mother to two children. She has been married to Joe Bradshaw for 20 years. She works as a cleaner. She had a dream about drinking wine sitting out to the ocean watching the Greek sunset. In her young days and was in love, she used to have a lot of dreams, but they disappeared with Shirley Valentine.
Joe Bradshaw:
Married to Shirley and he runs his own firm. He is living after a time schedule, wants his tea at six o’clock and on Thursdays he wants his steak! He used to be fun and happy, but it chanced when he got his own firm to run.
Millandra:
She is daughter of Shirley and Joe. She does not live with her parents but with a friend in an apartment.
Brian:
He is son of Shirley and Joe. He is a busker poet and he has just found a place for him to live in Kirkby. But his mother thinks it is a squat.
Jane:
She is divorced and hates men after she found her husband in bed with the milkman, which makes her hate milk too. Because of this, she sold her house and spends the money on a vacation to Greece.
