It’s not a fish like many people think, it’s a mollusk like snails and clams. Some octopuses are having a shell like a snail. These are called nautilus.
The giant pacific octopus can splash water out of its rear part and like that it can move itself through the water. It can also walk or climb using the arms.
It’s red/brown or red/purple – the underside is paler. It has two lines of suction discs under each arm. The mouth is formed like a curved beak. It has amazing eyes. It can see in the dark. It goes hunting in the night, because the prey can’t see anything in the dark. It catches the prey in several ways. Sometimes it sneaks up on the prey and other times it lies in ambush. It catches the prey with its strong arms. Then it takes the prey up to the mouth and tears it into pieces with its strong beak.
