wether you are searching for peace or wish to go running.

The Great Wood in Dronninglund has it all, good marked routes and an exciting story…

The Giant Woman, "Knaghøjkællingen", who used to live on Vendsyssel´s highest point, "Knøsen", was fine to look at from the front, but from the back she was hollow. She could not stand hearing the church bells of Gl. Kirk, so she ordered her son, "The Troll", to crush it. The first huge boulder "The Troll" threw at the church was too heavy and landed behind the church to one side. As a punishment, he had to suckle for seven years. When those seven years had passed, "The Troll" threw another giant boulder, but it too missed and he was forced to suckle for a further seven years. After another two attempts, "The Troll" finally succeeded in crushing the church.

By following the arrows along the yellow route you come to the "Love Beech", a tree that is about 200 years old and therefore quite frail. Many loving couples have carved their names or initials in its bark over the years. And in recent years, couple have chosen to get married under the old beech tree.
