Intro: Solar is a Novel written by Ian McEwan Ian Russel McEwan is an 63 old english man, who lives in London.The detailed way the author makes the characters discuss quantum physics. makes me think that he really engaged him self in the subject. I also think, that he thought a lot about the main charachter, Michael Beard's personality.
Characteristics: Beard: Michael beard is a fat, bald, middle-aged academic, who lives in London. On the outside his a reliable scientist. But on the inside he's rotten to the core. His life is chaotic, and complicated. He's greedy, and easy to bribe with money, flattery, and anything that is in his favour only. Beard is an egoist, womanizer, liar, cheater, and a coward, but women can't stop falling in love with him. From the book: "He belonged to that class of men -- vaguely unprepossessing, often bald, short, fat, clever -- who were unaccountably attractive to certain beautiful women. Or he believed he was, and thinking seemed to make it so."
Summary: Michael Beard is a Nobel prize-winner, he combined hes own research results, with Einsteins theory of relativity and created, the "Beard-Einstein Conflation" which he received his Nobel prize for. When we first meet in the novel, he is 53 years old in the year 2000. His fifth marriage is falling apart, the wife's affair with one of Beards smart research
