Mediernes rolle i sport: Etik og Tiger Woods

The media plays a huge role in sports. The main reason that golf has become so popular in these recent years is due to the media. The media does not only concentrate on a athletes ability in the sport but also in his/hers personal life. We could clearly see this fact in the two texts. The first text is more concentrated on the sport which is golf and the second text is more concentrated on Tiger’s personal life.

As we know the media tries its best to give the people an interesting story, so that they could capture the public’s attention. In this process the media knowingly or unknowingly manages to overlook the boundaries of ethics. The media could actually make or ruin an athlete’s career. We could clearly see this in text number two, when they go in depth into Tiger’s personal life, where they talk about Tiger’s girlfriends and his wife etc.

In the second text we could see that morality plays a huge role in sports. The text says that ‘his sponsors are pulling back from supporting him’. The main reason for this could be because Tiger Woods is a role model for a numerous number of people and when Tiger has done morally bad things it reflects on the sponsors and their goods. Therefore we could conclude that morality plays a huge role in sports.
