Charlie Babbit’s business is in trouble and he needs money very badly. He receives news of his father’s death. His father has left all his money to a person, and not to Charlie. Charlie is angry, because he feels the money belongs to him, and not anyone else. He found out that his father has giving the money to Charlie’s brother, a brother he didn’t knew he had. The brother is called Raymond, and he is autistic. Raymond is living in an institution, and Charlie ‘kidnaps’ him. They are staying on a hotel one night, but Raymond doesn’t wanna be there, because he doesn’t have his books and the bed under the window. The next day, when they are on a restaurant, Charlie found out that Raymond has a really good memory. For example, he can remember the phone book from A to G. Charlie should to L. A. as fast as he can, and when they are in the airport, and almost in the plain, Raymond starts too scream and he didn’t wanna go on the plain. So Charlie promises Raymond, that they drive to L. A. instead. When they are arrived in L. A. Charlie founds out that Raymond is the Rain Man. As a child, Charlie had a friend there took care of him, when he was sad, and he called him the Rain man. Charlie decided to use Raymond’s unusual skills to win in poker, but before that they buy new close and Charlie teaches Raymond how to play. When Raymond sits in the bar, a woman asks him if they should go on a date. Raymond gets really happy, and says yes. Charlie teaches him to dance, and Raymond gets ready to his date, but the date doesn’t come. Charlie doesn’t hate his brother more, like he did in the start, now he loves him, and now they have a real brotherhood. Charlie wants Raymond to live with him, but the people institution says that it is best for him, to stay on the institution. Charlie realizes what’s best for Raymond, and let him stay on the institution. When Raymond is on the way home, Charlie tells him that he will visit him, every second week.
