The storry is about a couple that has just arrived at a hotel, the husband lies in the bed, and reads in his book, then the women look out the window and sees a cat, hiding from the rain, under a table. The women really want to get the cat inside and tells her husband that she will go outside and get the cat. She goes down, and throug the lobby, passes the nice door, he smiles and opens the door for her, she goes around the hotel, and sees that the cat is gone. She gets upset and then goes back up to her husband and tells him that the cat has run away.
The wife was very upset, because she really wanted this cat, and all she talks about know, is that she wants a cat.
After a little while they here a knock on the door, and the husband jells “Avanti”, the husband looks up from his book, and in the doorway, he sees the maid she held the cat in her arm, the maid said, “Excuse me, the padrone asked me to bring this for the Signora.
The realationship between George and his wife, seems like it is his wife that “runs the place”, she is the one with the control in the realationship. She decides that they get a cat, so she gets a cat. The relationship is a picture of the common relationship in the modern community, where the wife controls the house at home. The wife is a bit dominating, but George does not always give in to it, and sometimes just tells her to shut up and find something to read, instead of complaining all the time. In other words, this is a pretty normal reslationship.
