The stolen generations are the aboriginal children taken away from their families by the government. This happened in a period between 1814 and 1969. This actually happened since the first European settlement. The reason people say this started in 1814 is; in 1814 the first “native institution” was made, the institution was made to make aboriginal children more civilized.

Other people mean it is in 1869 because child removal was made legal, by law. This was a part of the Victorian “Aboriginal Protection Act”, the first of these laws was made in 1860. These laws made it possible for the law enforcements to remove over 100.000 children all over Australia. Again other say that it started in 1909 because the first law for the whole country was made.

In 1909 this was made legal all over Australia and in 1915 it was allowed to remove children without the parents approval or a court judge.

In fact this whole idea didn’t help – in fact the opposite, when the children were removed they were taught how to act around civilized people, but when they got out or became released, they would have to walk among racists – the very people who wanted them to become civilized hated them! And now when they had become civilized they would not even give them a chance, just because of their skin color! The aboriginals were made a fool they had acted against everything they had learned from their parents, and after they were just made fools in their new surroundings. This is of course not okay.
