It’s a warm June evening in Dublin. It’s quiet. Only the sound of rifles and machineguns, are breaking the silence.A Republican sniper is laying on a roof top, near the O’Connell Bridge, as the evening turns to night. His face is a student, but his eyes are a grown man’s. They have seen death, and are used to see death.There is civil war in Ireland. Not far from the young sniper, lays another sniper keeping a watch on him, and If he can, he’ll shoot him.He risks a smoke, but the light from the lighter captures the other snipers attention, and he shot immediately.
An armored car comes driving over the bridge and into the streets on the other side. It’s one of the enemy’s cars. The car stops, and a man comes up to the torrent. An old woman comes out to the car, she points up to the roof where the young sniper is. She’s an informer.The sniper raises his rifle and shoots the man in the torrent, and then the woman.And then suddenly he hears a shot, and drops his rifle. He wants to pick it up, but he can’t. He has been shot in his arm. There’s only a hole in, and not a hole out, so the bullet are stuck in the bone.He breaks the neck on the iodine bottle, and let the liquid fall drop by drop into the wound. He presses his teeth together to overcome the pain, and then rap some bandage around the arm.Now he can’t use his rifle, and he can’t escape from the roof. So he use a long time nursing his wound, and planning He takes his cap of and put in on the top of the rifle. The he rises the cap up, so the sniper on the other roof can see it. There comes a bullet though the cap immediately, and the sniper thinks that he have shot his target. So he packs up his things, and is ready to leave. But the young sniper that only can shoot with his revolver, shots him right before he leaves the roof.
