We start off by following Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson), as he and his wife are on a flight to a biotechnology conference in Berlin. At the event, a scientist and his controversial Arab funder will announce breakthrough research. While his wife checks into the hotel, Martin grabs a cab to return his briefcase which was lost at the airport. On the way to the airport, a car accident puts him in a coma, from which he awakes four days later without identification and gaps in his memory. He goes back to the hotel in the hopes that his wife will know of him. Another man has supposedly claimed his identity. - As she refuses to recognize him he gets left in a dubitable wonder. With help from the cab driver, a nurse, a retired Stasi agent, and an academic friend, he tries to discover his true identity and unravel what is actually going on.
