Bono is mostly an artist like everybody else, but in one specific area is he quite unique – he wants to change Africa. He started out in the 80’s like everybody else. At the time he thought: “People are dying needlessly and you should put your hand in your pocket” His band went in on it to. But they found out that it was not that simple. He got the feeling of it over the year he is working with charity. But one day a guy named Jamie called him and said: “Let me guide you through how the money is spend in Africa. “ Bono agreed and Jamie tells him that for every dollar they send down to Africa they get more back. Bono disbelieved him, but when he got the actual paper over Africa’s economy in his hands it amazes him. It makes him change his work totally. Suddenly he gets George Bush’s attention, who was the president at that time. Bono set up a meeting with him, about sending more money to Africa. Bush disagreed because of the corruption. But Bono was not satisfied with a no. So in 2012 Bono and his drummer convinced Bush to come down to Africa to see that some countries were (and still are) willing to fight against corruption and open up for new leaders and leadership. When the group arrived in Africa Bono started out by showing them an AIDs clinic, but Bush wanted to go to e.g. the stock exchange. Bono and the drummer thought: “You are so wrong.” But then they realized that the Africans actually wanted a new economy and be in the world-wide-trading-system. They simply needed a kick-start. The school down there is not good yet. Not because they need more books but because they need more teachers. And that’s Bono’s next job, because he takes one thing at a time.
