Summary: The outsiders is about a boy named Ponyboy, he is 14- years old. Ponyboy has two older brothers named Darry, who is 20 and Sodapop, who is 16. They are living in a house alone because their parents died in a car accident. The boys are greasers, a class term that refers to the young men on the East Side, the poor side of town. The greasers’ rivals are the Socs, who are the West Side rich kids. Ponyboy and two others from the gang, Dally and Johnny goes to a drive-in movie. Then they meet Cherry and her friend Marcia who has boyfriends from the Socs. The boys offer to walk the girls’ home after the movie, but along the way, the girls’ boyfriends reappear and threaten to fight the greasers. Cherry stops the fight from happing, and the girls’ leave with their boyfriends. On the way home Ponyboy and Johnny goes to the park. At the park Cherry’s and Marcia’s boyfriends reappear. The Socs are many people so Ponyboy and Johnny are outnumbered. Some from the Socs grab Ponyboy and shove his face into the fountain, and holding his head under the water. Realizing the Ponyboy is drowning, Johnny panics he pulls his switchblade and kills Bob from the Socs. The boys are need to get away from the city, before the police is arrested them for killing Bob. The boys’ hop a freight train and find the hideout where they are in save until Dally comes for them. They both cut their hair and Ponyboy colored it so nobody will recognize them. Dally shows up after a week, and takes them home. They head back to the church and discover that is on fire. A school group was there, apparently some children of outing, and young children are trapped inside. Without thinking, Ponyboy and Johnny race inside and rescue the kids. As they are handing the kids outside to Dally, the burning roof collapses. Ponyboy barely escapes, but a piece of lumber falls down on Johnny, burning him badly and breaking his back. The boys now viewed as heroes, are taken via ambulance back to town. Johnny dies of his injuries. Dally is overcome of his pain and he robs a grocery store. The grocery store calls the police and Dally runs away. Dally sees the police and he call the gang from a telephone booth, asking to pick him up and drive him to a hiding place. The police chase Dally to the lot, and as the gang watches Dally takes a black thing op from his jacket and the police shoots him.
