The Battle og Little Bighorn

The Lakota people are a tribe of Native Americans, who lived on the “Great Plains”. The Great Plains is a big part of America, it is in the middle of America. The Lakota is one of the biggest Native American tribes. The Arapaho people are also a big Native American tripe. Today only 5.000 people of the Arapaho tribe remains. Four days before that, General Custer noticed tracks of camps that had been constructed the same day. Custer commanded Major Reno and his troops, to be on the lookout for Indian scouts. The purpose of that was to attract enemies. Meantime Benteen was searching for other villages, but he did not find any other villages. General Custer send Benteen an order: “Come back quickly and bring more ammunition” Benteen ignored both orders. General Custer joined Reno, and went to the river, ready to defeat the enemy, while Ben-teen was still on his way back. Reno was frightened, so he and some of General Custer’s men said they wanted to look down the river and search for scouts. Suddenly General Custer and 250 men were standing at the river, waiting for 1.000 men to come. Reno and his troops ran away and hid on the top of a hill, 20 minutes away from General Custer. Today the hill is called “Reno hill”. All the Indian warriors on the other side of the river, were now concentrated on General Custer.To gain time for Benteen to come back, Custer captured some of the Indian civilians. Instead of joining General Custer, Benteen joined Major Reno on the hill, with more than 400 men. Neither Benteen nor Reno dared to leave the hill. Custer and his men died, after killing 200 Indian warriors.
