8 Mile is a movie about Jimmy Smith, also called B Rabbit. He lives in Detroit, 8 Mile. The movie starts with B Rabbit standing in a toilet before he is going into a rap-battle in the local club. On stage B Rabbit gets a lot of support from his friends and the show-host ‘’Future’’, but he gets a blackout and he can’t do the fight. He has to resign from the battle under big humiliation.
After the scene with the rap-battle, the movie takes focus in B Rabbits life. He is a young metal worker that fights different classic problems in his life. B Rabbit has broken up with his girlfriend Jeaneane, and he is now back to living with his alcoholic and unemployed mother, his little sister Lily, and his mother’s girlfriend Greg. All of them lives together in a big old portable cabin.
The only thing B Rabbit wishes for is to get a music carrier inside rap.
B Rabbit realizes that his life hasn’t changed since he went in public school. He sees that he is a victim to his own actions and he starts to blame everybody else around him.
Then a day at work, B Rabbit meets Alex. He starts to like her, and after he met her, his life starts to change. He begins with taking responsibility to his actions, and at the same time he begins to question his friends that consists of daydreamers who always talks about being somebody, without ever during something about it.
