The poor people in India, can make money by going on the street and sing for the people who have money but many just sit and beg. They can also go to the dumps and collect plastic bags. There are also some Indians who work at the coast where scrapped vessels are left. They can sell the old spare parts and iron and other metals. Some people make money by selling single cigars, fruit and vegetables.

How do the rich people make money?

Many of the rich people in Mumbai earn their money in the banking world as stock dealers or with computer business. Many European companies get help from Indian computer-specialists. The TV and Bollywood industry has also made many Indians rich.

Living conditions – poor compared to the rich?

Mumbai is land of some of the world's richest people but It is also home to the world's poorest. Over 40 percent of India's almost 1.2 billion population live inpoverty. The poorest people in Mumbai live in the street or in a shanty. They have not any electricity or fresh water in the shanty. Often they can only buy rice and other cheap food and only for one day at a time. Many poor children have to work instead of going to school because they do not have enough money.
