Analyse af 'A Passage to India' af David Lean

I believe that this movie gives a very real insight into the relationship between the English and the Indian people in the 1920’s. It shows how snobbish the British people were, and how little respect they had for other nations. But because of the Indian peoples growing dependence of the British people, they allowed the British to suppress them. Because the English people were so well-off, there were plenty workplaces for the poor Indians. I am disgusted by the view Ronny Heaslop, among many others, had upon Indian people. He lived by the rule, that any Indian is guilty of a crime until the opposite is proven; which is the exact opposite rule to how we judge criminals today.

Two of the very few persons with a different influx towards Indians in this movie, are Miss Adela Quested and her mother in law, Mrs. Moore. Though as snobbish as other English people with their “Tea-parties”, they have an open mind towards the Indian people. Instead of regarding them as slaves, they want to get to know them. Instead of neglecting the Indians they start talking to them as equal persons, and this leads to a temporary friendship with the local doctor, Aziz.
