Who haven´t tried to be treated badly and unduly? I have, you have and everyone has. But how should I and you react when you have been exposed to bad behavior, what is right and what is wrong? That’s one of the main questions the author Bel Kaufmann wants to make us think about.

The story starts with a peaceful Sunday afternoon, where a little family of three enjoys the playground in a park. Their three year old son Larry is playing in the sandbox, while his mother and father Morton are watching him from a bench near the sandbox. Suddenly a boy throws a spadeful of sand at Larry. Larry´s mother is calm and asked the boy nicely not to throw sand at her child. After a while the boy picked up his spade, and threw one more spadeful of sand at Larry. This time Larry´s mother gets annoyed and mad. She tells the boy with a hard attitude, not to throw sand on Larry. The boy´s father tells his son that his behavior is okay, and he can continue throwing sand at Larry, because it is a public place. Now Morton became rarely angry at the man, and went over to him, to discuss his son´s behavior. The man was very provoked and impossible to discuss with. Morton left the man, because he was not a violent type, and the man was also a lot bigger than him, so he did not take up the fight. Larry´s parents removed Larry from the sandbox, even though it was against his will, and they left the playground.
