In the essay “Sunday in the park” we are hearing about one woman, two mens, and two children, there is at a park a sunday afternoon. The text only tells us the name of one of the men, and his child. The man that we know the name of, is named Morton, and his childs is named Larry. The other man is not discribed with a name, but we know that he is tall and big.
He reads comic and is fat, and there is always spat dripping from his mouth. From his discription i would say he is the oppisets of Morton. We also know that he dont talk decently to others. Example in the text “Aw, shut up” said the man” ( linie 31, page 2) From his way of talking, i would say that he is from a low social group.
Morton works at a university, he wears classes and reads “Times magazine”, that makes me say that he is from a different social group than “the big man”. He has a good education and works hard. He is a good man, there do not want to fight. Example from the text “Come on, lets get out of here” said Morton ( line 44 page 2 ). This only support my idea about Morton being from a different social group than “the big man”.The two mens behavior also reflect in their childs behavior, the “big mans” child, is not raiset properly. He does not know that, you not throw sand at others. In the text where the bad raist child is throwing sand on Morton and the womans child, he begins to cry, instead of getting mad and try to hit the other child. That shows that if you come from a “good enviorment” and you raise your child properly, then your child will grow up, knowing how to treat others and how to react. The woman of the crying child, do of curse care about her son, but she is raiset in a high social group, and know how to treats other. In the text where the “big mans” son throws sand and Morton an the woman son, we hear the autor of the text reading up from her mind, “Her first instinct was to rush to her son, brush the sand out of his hair, and punish the other child, but she controlled it” ( line 3-4 pages 2 )That tells us that she is a very loyal person to her family, but also that she treats every one with respect no matter what they might have done. And thats why she try to tell the bad raised child, that it is not okay to throw sand at others. When the woman is defending her child, the “big man” is interrupting said “go right ahead Joe” throw all you want. That here is a puplic sandbox” ( line 10-11 pages 2 ) Then Morton get up from the bench and walk over to the “fight” , he tell the “big man” in a nice way that he is right that it is public but, and then the man interrupt one more time and say “ aw shut up” and when Morton tries to make the man understand he say “ you and who else?” Then Morton walks away from the man and his child, together with his family.Morton is a clever man, and that shows by, him walking away. He is avoiding a violence fight, and in the same time he is being a role model for hes son. Morton knows that if he dos not go, he would only get beating by “the big man”, and violence is not a way of solveing a problem. When they walking away from the park, the womans first thought was “was one of relief that a fight had been avoided, that no one was hurt” ( line 10-11 pages 3 )Again we hear how much she care about her family, and thats she does not want anything to happened with them. She is caring about others than herself, unlike “the big man” he is only caring about himself. Because even if he is doing it for hes child sake, it wont give him anything good in the future. He will only learn to do what he want when he want, and thats not a proper behavior.
