After agreement with course holder -.-, page numbers are not noted in quotation references. This is due to the fact that the material is all read on a Kindle(ebook) where page numbers do not exist. Though there is still great value in holding a book in your hands, it should be mentioned that the reason the Kindle version was chosen is that most English literature classics are free to download today and thus all material for the entire course has cost the small price of 0.99 us dollars. My hope is that the university soon will recognize this great source of material that at the same time is very sustainable.

Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” is a novella about a man, named Marlow, who ventures into the heart of Africa on a steamboat to find a famous or infamous, depending on the point of view, ivory supplier named Mr Kurtz. During his trip down the river Marlow meets lots of complications and at every turn he meets new people who all have heard of the exploits of Kurtz. Each new acquaintance meets Marlow with a new version of who Mr Kurtz is. The only thing that seems consistent through the stories is that Kurtz is a man of great skill. In the end Marlow finally meets up with Kurtz and it is revealed that he has turned himself into some godlike figure to the natives and have them gathering ivory a rates no one else can match. Kurtz is sick with fever when Marlow finds him and appear in the book as somewhat mentally delusional. Marlow attempts to withdraw him from the jungle, but Kurtz perishes from his fever before he gets back.
