The story is about the narrator who is afraid of his master. The master is called the old man. The narrator is extremely fearful of the old man’s eye. He decides to get rid of this eye that seems to threaten him. The old man’s eye is described as a vulture eye. The narrator starts to be kinder to the old man the week up to the killing. He starts discussing in his thoughts why and how he could kill the old man. The narrator starts observing the old man during his sleep 12 o’clock at night every night sharp. The narrator terrifies the old man with his noises at night. The old man’s heart starts beating loud and fast and the time has come for the narrator. The narrator chokes the old man with his own bed. The narrator dismembers the old man’s body and conceals it under the floor in the living room. The neighbours hear a shriek from the old man and call the police to search the narrator’s house. The narrator chats confidently with the policemen at first. But then the narrator wants them gone and the old man’s heart starts to sound in his head. He screams out of fear and confesses his evil deeds.
