Greenpeace is an international organisation that protects and conserves the environment and to promote peace by: catalysing an energy revolution: defending our oceans: protect or Forrest: work for peace: creating a toxic free future.
Greenpeace is present in 40 countries across Europe, America, Asia, Africa and the pacific.
Greenpeace started in 1971…. It started with some journalist and some volunteer who sailed in to an area called Amchitka, and it is an area in north Alaska. It’s were the US government were conducting underground nuclear test. After that it have been a tradition of 'bearing witness' in a non-violent manner continues today, and there ships are an important part of all their campaign work.
They exist to expose the environmental criminals, and to challenge the government when they fail to live up to their mandate to safeguard our environment and our future.
They believe that the struggle to preserve the future for or planet that it is not about them but us. Greenpeace speaks for about 2.8 million supporters.
Their name of their flagship( the rainbow warrior) is taken from a north America Cree Indian legend. It described a time when humanity's greed has made the Earth sick. At that time, a tribe of people known as the Warriors of the Rainbow would rise up to defend her.
