My main topic is people who have made a difference and my topic is Nelson Mandela.

I have chosen this topic beacuse of my personal Interest, I really like what he fought for and what he did for Africa and the blacks. I also wanted to know more about him and apartheid.

When and where did apartheid take place?

Apartheid took place in south Africa, in 1948. Apartheid was a segregation for the farvede and the withes. The whites had all the power in south Africa and The whites started the apartheid because they wanted to create a system that would make it easy to keep all this power without sharing anything. They decided to separate all south Africans according to the colour of their skin. They made laws that forced wgites, Africans, Indians and coloured to live in separate places. Even families were spilt, if the parents were not the same colour.

Under the new laws whites were firstclass and the Indians were second best. The coloureds were third and the black people had the lowest status.

Only the withes were allowed to vote in the elections. DOING apartheid , life in south African was divided into two worlds. Everything you could thing of beaches, benches, cinemas, trains, schools, were divided into places for withes only and places for only non-with es. It was also illegal for withes and black people to marry. There was even a law against black and withe people kissing.
