I have chosen to talk about Rosa Parks, because I thought she sounded interesting and she made a huge change for the black people.
Rosa Parks was born in Alabama in nineteen thirteen and died in October twenty-four two thousand and five. She was an African American civil rights activist, whom the United States Congress called "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement". Rosa spent most of her life fighting for the desegregation and voting rights.
No matter what city she lived in, she found a way to stay involved in the community and always seemed to have a way to voice her thoughts and feelings about inequalities in society.
Rosa had a knack for doing this effectively, but quietly and was known for her saying, "Do what is right". She has been one of the leaders in the black American history who have had most influence.
Rosa Parks got arrested and convicted of violating the laws of segregation, known as “Jim Crow laws” in December Nineteen fifty-five, for not standing and letting a white bus rider take her seat. She sat near the middle of the bus, just behind the 10 seats reserved for whites. And then all of the seats in the bus got filled. When a white man entered the bus, the driver insisted that Rosa Parks should give up her seat so that the man could sit there. The bus driver asked Rosa “Are you going to stand up?” and then she refused and said “no”. So the bus driver said, “well, I’m going to have you arrested”. And then she replied softly “you may do that”. It wasn’t because Rosa was physically tired that she didn’t want to stand up, she was just tired of the segregation laws. And some people thought that it was because Rosa Parks was old, but she wasn’t, she was forty-two.
