This story is about growing up, and taking choices which decides how you think about life, and how you are as a person. You are trying to figure out, if you are the one who hits people, or the one picking them up afterwards. All these decisions we make in the teenage years, are an integral part of how we are going act when we grow up. It is also about pushing your childhood/parents away. A lot of stories have been made about that subject, especially fairytales, but here is a novel written by Lucy Cross.

It is about a girl who sits in detention, because she hit a girl (Penny). She is a very good student, but she is friends with the toughest girl in school. She is thinking about her bad relationship with her mother. While all these thoughts are going through her mind, she is drawing an exact replica of a real heart. When the detention is over she gives the drawing to the teacher. Then she tells him to throw it out, when she sees her “hard” friend.

Lucy is a clever girl, and gets the best grades. She has brown eyes, and wear makeup despite the fact that her mother wouldn’t let her. It is her first time in detention, and she has in general been affected badly by her friend Bethan, but that is my interpretation. For an example she starts smoking because of Bethan. I can imagine that maybe Lucy had been, in a not such a good position socially before she became friends with Bethan. Since then she has made changes to herself because of Bethan. For an example, she changes the way she feels about Penny, because of Bethan. Lucy is also the first person narrator.
