Analysis of Lucy In “The Sin Bin or Lucy’s Heart” we always notice everything from Lucy’s perspective, and what she observes from her decisions. Lucy is the narrator of the story, and she is also the main character, so everything we know in the story is through Lucy’s actions and thoughts. There are many different sides of Lucy in this story. We know that she is a grade A student, and that she has turned around everything upside down since she met Bethan. Bethan has a very enormous influence on Lucy. We see in the text that Lucy is a pushover, and what I mean by that is she does most of the things that Bethan suggests her to do. In this story we see that Lucy hit Penny, because Bethan told her to do it, and there is a quote where Lucy says “Penny Jonas is very thin. When I hit her, I thought she might just fall over. But she didn’t”. This shows that Lucy has never hit a person in her life. It also makes her shy, because she hasn’t learnt how to say no in uncomfortable situations. Lucy is also insecure, and we see that on page 6 line 36. There is a quote saying “She told me, we’ve got to start wearing blue eyeliner because it’s really in” and then there is another quote saying “My mum doesn't let me wear make-up, so I have to scrub my face before getting home but after Bethan has said goodbye”. We see that she is insecure, and that she will not make Bethan mad, so she does all the things she says. She is very pushover, because she does not show her mother the eyeliner. She is only doing it, because Bethan told her to do it.
