“I don't like to lie to your father”, Tom said. “But I have to say it again. You are really pretty in that dress!”
Polly knew that he didn't like to lie, because of our religion, and my father would fire him, if he found out that Tom had kept a secret for my father.
“Can you please keep this secret between you and me?”, Polly asked.
“I'm sorry. I can't do it, and you know why. If you don't tell him, I have to do it..” Tom said sadly.
Polly was crying now. She didn't know what to say. She didn't want to be shunned by the Amish people and by her family. It wasn't Tom's fault, it was her own fault. She just wanted to have some fun, because the way The amish people live could be boring sometimes. She wanted to try some new things like the Englisch people. She always wished to live like the Englisch people, but she didn't want to loose her family.
She waited for her family to come home from Ohio, so she could tell about, what she have done with Rose Ann, who even wasn't welcome in their home, because she was Englisch. When her family had come home, she couldn't get herself to tell her dad about it.
