I chose to talk about Steve Irwin because I think his life was very interesting. Not a lot of
people live the way that he did. I also think he’s very inspiring.
My favourite quote from him is: “Crocodiles are easy. They try to kill and eat you. People are
harder. Sometimes they pretend to be your friend first.”
It means that people aren’t always what they appear to be, and trust needs to be earned first.
Who was Steve Irwin?
Steve Irwin was born February 22, 1962, in Melbourne, Australia. He was 8 years old when
his family moved to Queensland. His parents founded the Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park
since both of them had an interest in animals and worked with wildlife. This helped spark
Steve’s interest in animals. He especially liked reptiles and crocodiles.
On his 6th birthday he received a large python, and he often helped his parents feeding and
maintaining the animals in the park. And he was already wrestling with crocodiles by his 9th
birthday, and he became very good at dealing with living animals.
He started working as a crocodile trapper after graduating high school in 1979 where he
moved crocodiles from populated areas to his Reptile Park.
