Kit Carson: biografi om en amerikansk pioner

Kit Carson was an American Indian fighter, who loved to explore new areas and mountains.

Christopher Houston Carson, also known as Kit Carson, came to the world on Christmas Eve 1809 in Madison Country in Kentucky. He had 13 brothers and sisters, and he was the 9th child. When he was an infant, his family moved to Howard Country. He spend most of his childhood in Boone’s Lick. His father died when he was 9 years old which meant that little Christopher had to work to help his family. At an age of only 14 years, Kit had to work as an apprentice. His job was to saddle and harness. In 1826 Kit was a restless man, and therefore he joined a wagon tail. They were heading west on the Santa Fe Trail. After Santa Fe Kit went north to Taos where he worked as a cook, errand boy and a harness repairer. At an age of 19, Kit was ready for new adventures. He was hired for a fur trapping expedition to California. Between 1828 and 1840 he had his headquarter in Taos, where he made many fur-trapping expeditions. He passed all mountains, from the mountains from west and all the way to the Rocky Mountains. Kit Carson was the man who explored the west to Spanish California. He was living among Indians, and he was married into the two tribes called Arapaho and Cheyenne. In 1836 he met his first wife, an Indian women from the tripe Arapaho, who was called Waanibe. To get the tripe’s blessing he was forced to duel with a French trapper in the same year she bore a daughter, but shortly after the second birth in 1841 shedied. The second daughter did not live long, and in 1843 she fell into a kettle of boiling soap in Taos. Suddenly he lived among trappers with a daughter called Adaline. Around 1840 Kit became the chief hunter for the garrison of Bent’s Fort and Colorado. Kit’s daughter couldn’t handle their life, because it was too hard to go over the mountains. Kit’s sister Mary Ann Carson Rubey took care of Adaline so Kit could live his wild life, and she could have a normal childhood. When she became a teenager, he took her west, and afterwards she got married and later divorced. In 1858 she reached California Goldfields. She died 1860. In 1841 Kit married Making-Out-Road who was from a tripe called Cheyenne, but they were only shortly together. In 1842 he married Josefa Jaramillo, a Mexican girl, who only was 14 years old. They got 8 children.
