82% of India’s population is Hindus, 12% is Muslims, 2,3% Christians, 1,9% Sikhs, 0,8% Buddhists, 0,4% Jains, and the rest of the population is a combination of Bahai, Jews and Parsees who together make up the last 0,4%.
Hinduism
Hinduism is a religion with many gods. You only meet some of them locally; in the village's small temple or in a particular area of India. You can find other gods everywhere. These gods are first and foremost the central gods Shiva and Vishnu, in addition to the goddess, Shakti. These gods are known under many different names and in many different shapes, depending on where in India – and the world – you find yourself. A Hindu or a Hindu family usually stick with one god which they are especially attached to, and which they serve as the only god. This God is considered to be personal and universal and as the only central god. In addition to the biggest and most important god, Hindus can also visit other god’s temples or worship them, but they don’t worship them, as much as with their central god. Even though there’s a lot of gods, in the long run, they’re all an expression of the same, which is called God or Braham.
