Ebola virus: an informative speech

Hello everyone, my name is [NAVN A], and I’m studying at commercial upper-secondary school in Skive. I’m here to inform you about a very dangerous virus called Ebola. I have worked with Ebola in my English classes, and with the information I have gathered there, I will do a speech for you. Ebola is very dangerous, and the amount of people dying from the virus is increasing day by day, and the people in the infected areas are suffering from this. However the World Health Organization is doing everything they can, to prevent this virus from spreading even more.

It is important to remember, that the virus isn’t raging here in Denmark, but in West Africa, in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. Also it has been confirmed, that one person in Senegal has been infected by Ebola. This virus causes a lot of deaths, and if you count all the confirmed, probable and suspected cases, more than 3600 people are infected. Out of these 3600 people more than 1800 have died of the virus. It is very tragic, however to prevent getting the disease you can do something yourself. For example you can avoid physical contact with people showing signs and symptoms of Ebola, such as red eyes, fever, vomiting and stomach ache. In Africa they have a hard time doing the spoken, because of their culture. They are very close to each other, and they are often playing games or doing something, where physical contact is inevitably. Beside contact with humans, animals such as bats, monkeys and other animals, even dead ones, can make you infected of Ebola. Even in bush meat Ebola can appear, so cook your food very well. The most exposed people in Africa are the ones living in poor environments. They don’t have the education or money to do something by them self, they need their government to make some major decisions. Therefore it is somehow irrelevant to tell you all about this, but I think it is good for you to have some good insight in what is going on at the moment. Maybe you can put yourself in their position, and sympathize and feel compassion for the people of Africa. Of course it’s a great step that the governments of the exposed countries are negotiating with WHO, but in my opinion they also need to put some money in the hospital facilities, because they are very nasty and unhygienic. If WHO were given more money, not only from the exposed countries, but from the rest of the world as well, then I think they could make better conditions, not only for the sick ones, but also for the doctors. Doctors are dying in Africa because of the bad circumstances too, and even when it is doctors getting sick, there is still no vaccine or cure for the virus.
