The “Child-tracker app” – is it a necessity today or has technology just gone too far?

The smartphone media has given us a lot of opportunities. We are constantly able to get in touch with each other and just a minute away from looking up important information on our phones. Nowadays we also no longer have to get lost anywhere; the GPS built in our phones ensures this. It does not stop here, though.

Parents are now able to download apps, which make it possible to track their little children or even teens. Some people think this is a completely essential tool today, since we seem to live in a world where so many children go missing, and to reduce the amount of stress every parent experiences whenever letting their child out of sight. Others see difficulties with these child-trackers.

It is really necessary to constantly keep an eye on your child or does it cause more harm than good? Has technology gone too far this time?

As a parent you of course worry about what could happen to your child and every aspect of it. Every time someone goes missing and it is sent on TV, it seems like it is more and more likely to happen to your own child some day. Many people, including writer of the article “How Can You Benefit From Owning A Child GPS Tracker?”, Antony Rivera, seem to think that abduction has increased lately. However, do we know this for sure, or is it just a feeling that we get, because the media has made us think so? Maybe they found that we are particularly interested in the really devastating news, and therefor these kinds of news catch our attention better? A case that created a lot of fear was the abduction and murder of 9-yearold Amber Hagerman, which resulted in the warning system, “Amber Alert Child GPS”.
