Interesting and exciting topic, I think it`s important to know at least a little bit about the worldwide social conflicts from the past.

What is apartheid?Apartheid is a Dutch word, which means, “living apart”. In South Africa, it grew to be a political system, which discriminated black South Africans and non- white people in general. From 1948 until early 1994 Apartheid was made law in South Africa. People in South Africa were classified into one of three categories: white, colored or black. ( A person could only be considered white if both the parents were white. The colored group mainly contained major subgroups of Indians and Asians but also mixed descents. The black category contained South Africans.)

How did Apartheid effect South AfricaApartheid affected nearly every aspect of non-white South Africans' lives. More than 9 million black people lost their right to vote as well as access to basic education. They were also forced to carry passports at all times for easy identification by authorities. I guess you can compare the passbooks with the yellow badge the Jews had to where during World War 2. During the 1950s many laws were made, to discriminate the black and colored humans as much as possible. (People from different races were divided into various living spaces. South Africans composed 80% of the total population, but they were only given 10% of South Africa’s total land. The non - white people were pushed out of the cities, into areas called homelands with largely unusable land.)There were also separate buses, shops and hospitals for black and colored people, and the services available were well under the standard provided for the minority whites. The government also took over the national schools and forced the segregation of white and black students. Signs were put up in many areas declaring these areas for "white persons only." Black people who broke the laws were punished and even put in jail.
