Derek used to have a great life. He was a well educated student, but at an early age is fathers hate towards black affected him, and his judgment. His father was a firefighter and when he was killed, putting out a fire in the black community, Derek was forced to drop out of school to help support his family. His life started changing drastically when he started joining a white supremacy group, which he later became a leader of.
One night, 2 black guys were breaking into his car. Derek killed them and was sent to jail 3 years for a race related murder. But prison affected him and his life more than he even realized at the beginning.
When he was released he had a whole new view on life. Upon his release, he comes to find out that his little brother Danny, is heading down the same path that he did. He is committing the same crimes that Derek did, and he hangs out with the same group of racists.
Derek makes Danny listen to him and the horrifying experience he had suffered in jail. Derek is determined to make sure Danny doesn’t follow his footsteps. He tries to get Danny out of the racist gangs, and he succeeds. Derek manages to change is little brother, so he is not a racist anymore. He convinces Danny to start a new life. He is done with all the gang violence and crimes. Now they both want to start over again and try to live a happy and peaceful life, never having to look over their shoulders when they walk down the street. They just wanted a normal life again.
