John (Channing Tatum) and Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) meet on the beach as John, as the random passers saves Savannah's bag, which was smoked in the sea. Before the fire and the party has gone out of Savannah, where John and Savannah subsequent eat dinner together and they start and get more and more together. An intense infatuation only allowed to be physically reciprocated in 2 weeks because John to be deployed as a US soldier.
The story sounds simple and superficial, but just the opposite. The Swedish world famous director Lasse Hallström, jumps so deep into feelings that you have to have a really thick armor, not to be touched and shed a tear (or many) during the film.
Side story of Savannah's life with his friend's autistic son, is touching and optimistic, but teetering at the same time so fine that it never becomes saccharine and queasy. The same is true of John bit autistiske father who has fallen in love on US coins. It was an interest, John had in his childhood, but less and less, he was interested in coins, and thereby took over John's father coin collection. It's liberating when life's hard sides are portrayed as realistic and brutally honest, without having to feel sorry for anyone.
