There has been used slaves for work in many countries, but no one really knows what it’s like too be a slave, so we asked an old slave with the name David Connen, he was a slave when it became forbidden to use slaves, what it was like to be a slave at that time.
“It was absolutely terrible, me and my family were taken away from our homes, transported in inhumane ships, busses and so on, with almost no food and water. We came to a place, the torture place, there were we in something like 4 weeks, but I’m not sure because we were kept in small rooms with no light and windows, so no one really knew what time of the day it was. Once in a while they came with some food and we had to say: “I’m a slave” 10 times before we could get the food and if we refused we was beaten down with lashes until we said it.
After 2 weeks we were taken out so we could wash ourselves and so we did, it was a relive that we finally was clean again. After that our condition, skills and obedience was tested and so we did in the last 2 weeks of the time we were at the torture place, but instead of the bath we trained our skills and body and if we refused there was a punishment, usually lashes but sometimes we just got a slap in the face.
