Analyse af Bruce Springsteens 'The Promised Land'

The title of the song that I’ve picked is “The Promised Land”, published October 1978. It gives me some expectations, because I think about what it means, and what the point is with a title like that, and my curiosity wakes.

The poem takes place in “The Promised Land”. It’s a long road, and it goes through a lot of different places among the country. It’s in the real world, because he explains the dogs on main street howl, Waynesboro country line. There is more than one physical setting;” I’ve done my best to live the right way”, “Take a knife and cut this pain from my heart”.The time in it is over some years, he explains that he’s working all day in his father’s garage, driving all night, chasing some mirage. It hasn’t been told what historical period it is, so there isn’t an explanation about it and the context.There is some indication in the song about the social and cultural environment, he tells about the culture, that he grows up in the same environment, and he have always tried to do everything right, to do it the way everyone like, but he never fitted in anywhere, and now he wants to leave it all behind. He is working very hard, but he doesn’t feel that anyone understands him.If we look at the settings in the song, he is describing it all down to details. He tells about the pain in his heart, how he feels, how things look. There is created a particular atmosphere in the poem, whist is told in the way that he describes why he want’s to leave, and he want’s people to understand why he do as he do.I see some symbolic significance in the text, because he is explaining a lot about his life, where he is, and where he wants to go.
