Analyse af filmen 'Do you believe?'

In this movie:” Do you believe?”: it all starts with this poor looking (presumably homeless) guy, that carries around a real-size cross, he approaches the pastor/priest of the city and asks him: “Do you believe?”. This simple sentence. This very simple and easy-to-understand question, starts a long line of thoughts in the pastor’s head, it starts some thoughts like: “What is being a Christian, really?” and: “is it enough just to read?”. Matthew (the pastor) then the day afterwards tells about his experience and thoughts in the church, and encourages people to take action. It’s not enough just to read, you also have to do something about this belief. This sermon changes amongst others, Bobby and J.D.´s perspective on life and Christianity, so they choose to do things. J.D. for example, he´d just lot his daughter not so long ago (at least it seemed so), and he and his wife hadn’t moved on since then. They were just staying in the past an in the grief. This sermon made him realize this, he realized that he had to move on, he had to do something, take action. He persuaded his wife to do the same thing. And those two ended up helping at a poor home/ a hostel for poor(shelter), homeless people, where they met this young girl (around the seven years) and her mother, that they decided to help. J.D. and Teri (the name of his wife). Talks with this girl and her mother (Grace and Lily, who also Is main characters of the story, and had met already the parish assistant of the church (Joe, nice, poor (poor as in I feel bad for him) guy suffering from a lethal lung illness) who also offered them shelter, although, only for a few nights… made very good friends with both Grace and Lily) about where they lived and that sometimes, they’d be forced to sleep in their car because of need of the Shelters limited space. And then an upcoming day, when it was raining very much, J.D figured that Grace and Lily, was forced to sleep in their car, so he went there, found them in their “orange dork mobile”, and brought them home (to his house). They then made an agreement that Grace and Lily could stay there for as long as they needed. Meanwhile, a war veteran, a pregnant girl and a black criminal (Pretty Boy) had also been involved. In this, the veteran - considering suicide. The Pregnant girl (Maggie) – who the pastor picked up and took care of. Ended up dying giving birth to what would turn out to be the pastor’s child (he and his wife hadn’t been able to get a child of their own). Bobby – a firefighter who made a dying man come to belief on his last breath, later got sued for that action, but denied to apologize although everything was taking away from him. Dr. Farrell – a very stubborn atheist who even, after seeing a miracle, refused to believe. Elena – Bobby (the firefighter’s wife) who wasn’t very serious with her Christianity until she saw the same miracle as the doctor. Joe – the guy who was the “victim” of this miracle, he died and was dead for 8 minutes before he miraculously got resurrected. (the guy that gave Grace and Lily shelter for a few nights). And Pretty Boy – a suburban criminal, who was in a pretty serious gang that made robberies, probably sold drugs, but definitely carried weapons. Got saved by form the police by Joe, by hiding in the crowd at this particular sermon. Got converted, and on his deathbed, also converted his (also “Kriminal” ;P) older brother to Christianity.
