The short story Clara´s day is about a teenage girl named Clara Tilling who lived with her mother and her stepfather. One day at school Clara decided to walked naked down the hall and nobody did not know why.
Clara was a fifteen and a half years old teenage girl who always has been shy about her body. We can see that in the following quotation where Clara´s mother said “You´ve always been such a prude. Ever since you were a toddler. Talk about modest! Honestly, Stan, she was hilarious, as a little kid – I can she her now, sitting on the beach at Camber clutching a towel around her in case anyone got a glimpse of her bum when she was changing” (S. 4, part 4, L. 6-9)
Therefor may we in particular think that Clara transcend her earlier personally barriers about her body to get every peoples attention at her.
Clara´s mother worked part time as a dentist´s receptionist. She was in love with her friend, Stan. That can we see in the following quotation where it is covered writing the following way “She worked part times as a dentist receptionist and had what were called flexible hours, which meant more or less that she worked when it suited her. Afternoons, nowadays often didn´t suit because Stan, her friend, who was an actor, was only free in the afternoons”. (S. 4L. 3-6) Therefor can we see that Clara´s mother is planning her time for working, not for Clara, but for Stan. Aside from the loving Clara´s mother also tried to live life as a teenage girl contemporary she is very irresponsible. The first fact can we see in the following quantitation “Clara said that there was no news and her mother went on reading an article in the magazine called, Clara could see upside down across the table “Orgasm – Fact or Fantasy?”. Clara´s mother talked about Clara´s body and suddenly Stan interrupted said “Smashing!” and her mother was just talking further like she had not heard Stan´s comment. That proved her being a bad mom.
